Top 15 Best Electric Shavers for Men

Updated on May 4, 2020 by Alex Noble
Home / Top 15 Best Electric Shavers for Men

Are you sick of using disposable razors but unsure what to buy? Take a look as I go over the best top Men’s Electric Shavers to come out. We are going to Amazon…no it’s not just for books and movies anymore. The shaver heads need to be replaced somewhere between every three months and once a year depending on the model.

But not all models are the same, number of blades, cost wise etc. Yes some of them seem steep at the $200-$300 when you think about spending $5-$10 once a month on disposable razors. But that still adds up, and further there are other advantages to electric shavers. Here is a look at the best men’s electric shavers.

01. Braun Clean and Renew Cartridge Refills

1. Braun Clean and Renew Cartridge Refills

Detail on Amazon

They need to be replaced once every three months in order for you to keep the every day shaved look. This should be common sense but due to the cleaning agent within these, use only in a well ventilated area and avoid smoking. These were created to go with Braun 3,5,7 and 9 shavers. It is worth noting that these shavers are expensive with a 7 shaver going for around $200 and a 9 shaver at the time of writing this is around $300. If you are looking for a worthwhile shaver that will last you a long time, you should not let that deter you. If these replacement cartridges are used correctly…the Braun shaver should last you over six years.

02. Philips Norelco HQ8 Dual Precision Replacement Heads

2. Philips Norelco HQ8 Dual Precision Replacement Heads

Detail on Amazon

There are three heads in the package. Recommended replacement is annually. In other words one package will last you three years. It is designed for Norelco Spectra Razor and fits the 8800, 7800, 7100 and 7200 series. One package lasting three years is obviously a good deal. Now, for those of you that are interested but need the shaving unit to begin with…the 8800 was just discontinued because the 9300 is now available. The description does not specify if these heads will work on the 9300 so please do due diligence and find out if it would work before buying it.

03. Braun Series 7 70 S Replacement Head

3. Braun Series 7 70 S Replacement Head

Detail on Amazon

This is projected to be the best selling foil shaver brand based on Braun global share values. This head needs to be replaced every eighteen months. At the time of writing this, it is a little more expensive than the previous Braun listed here; but keep in mind that it also lasts for six months longer. Also, it is the official shaver of the NFL…if you are a football fan it just might be cool to have this because of that. It is also worth keeping in mind that the shaver these go with is almost $200 instead of almost $300 as the previous Braun that was listed.

04. Braun Series 7 790cc-4 Electric Foil Shaver

4. Braun Series 7 790cc-4 Electric Foil Shaver

Detail on Amazon

This is the shaver that the foil goes with that is listed right above. There is an additional trimmer attached to it that helps to get at those flat hairs in those problem areas. It is also 100% waterproof which makes both shaving in the shower and cleaning the shaver easy.

05. Philips Norelco RQ11 Replacement Head

5. Philips Norelco RQ11 Replacement Head

Detail on Amazon

It comes one head per packange and needs to be replaced annually. This shaver is known for its holes that help catch even the shortest stubble. The original shaver is also the cheapest on this list so far. If you actually need to buy this replacement head, you need to double check which 3rd party on amazon you are buying from. There are complaints of knockoffs…that is not the fault of Amazon so much as it is the fault of a few certain individuals that sell on there. So do your homework and make sure you do not get burned.

06. Philips Norelco RQ12+ Replacement Head for Series 8000

6. Philips Norelco RQ12+ Replacement Head for Series 8000

Detail on Amazon

One head per package and it needs to be replaced annually. Yes that is a bit expensive compared to what was mentioned earlier. It is compatible with series 8000 (otherwise known as SensoTouch 3D) and Arcitec shavers. I am uncomfortable recommending this one. All the reviews left over the last two years have only been one star. Granted, maybe some of them were confused and left the review at the wrong model, but there is enough of them there that I don’t see that being the case.

07. Philips Norelco HQ9 SpeedXL Replacement Heads

7. Philips Norelco HQ9 SpeedXL Replacement Heads

Detail on Amazon

This is a package of three heads and needs to be replaced annually. The reviews seem to be much better on this one than the previous two entries so I feel better about recommending it. Just a couple of things to watch out for though: 1. It says from unknown on the Amazon page..check it a bit more thoroughly than that for your own sake, if you are actually going to make a purchase. 2. The packaging is ridiculously hard to get the head out. That is a minor inconvenience compared it being cheaply made and not working, however.

08. Gillette Fusion Proshield Chill Men’s Razor Blade Refills

8. Gillette Fusion Proshield Chill Men's Razor Blade Refills

Detail on Amazon

Gillette is the 1 bestselling razor for men with sensitive skin. A refill should last a month based on three shaves a week. The chill razor features a cooling effect during shaving. There is also a lubrication build into the blade in order to prevent irritation. The handles with the new Flexball technology make it much easier to get every problem hair. Further, these blade refills will work with any Gillete Fusion, ProShield or ProGlide handle so there is no guesswork involved. Even though there is a lubricant, you should still use a shaving gel. But that noted, it is probably the best shave available on the market without spending more on the Braun.

09. Braun Series 3 Replacement Head 32S

9. Braun Series 3 Replacement Head 32S

Detail on Amazon

My only gripe with Braun so far is that they make very incompatible heads within each of their models. So, before buying check and double check and then check again that you are buying the right one. Other than that, just as with the other model…you only have to replace them every eighteen months so these are quite excellent in my opinion. If you want to try one but are reluctant to drop the, at the time of writing this, approximately $300 on the series 7 or series 9, this would be an excellent thing to try first.

10. Panasonic ES8103S Arc3 Men’s Electric Shaver Wet/Dry

10. Panasonic ES8103S Arc3 Men's Electric Shaver Wet/Dry

Detail on Amazon

There’s a name you normally hear associated with TVs, not razors. But seeing as how it is the first cordless shaver that does not need replacement blades. It cuts about 13,000 times a minute. There is a special trimmer that helps with mustache and sideburns. It does come with an ac adapter to recharge the battery. All in all, if you are looking for a razor that is less than $100 and does not need replacement blades…this is the one.

11. Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 2100

11. Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 2100

Detail on Amazon

If you wanted to go cheaper than the previously mentioned Panasonic, this is how to do it. Keep in mind that this is an adequate but not great razor. It can come off the charger for about 35 minutes for you to shave with it and does not require replacement heads. The bottom line is: it is for men who are sick of disposable razors but don’t want to spring for a Braun or even the previously mentioned Panasonic.

12. Braun Series 5 5090cc

12. Braun Series 5 5090cc

Detail on Amazon

As of when this article was written, it costs half of what a series 7 or 9 does. The other stuff is the same…it requires the heads to be replaced every eighteen months and said heads are about the same price. The clean and charge station that is a Braun signature is also included and those cartridges need to be replaced at the same frequency. Overall, I would say that this is the best buy on this list.

13. Philips Norelco Shaver 6100

13. Philips Norelco Shaver 6100

Detail on Amazon

Here is another option if you are looking for a rotary shaver. Rotary shaver meaning no blades to be replaced. It is able to be used in wet and dry and is cordless. That’s another option for a decent shaver for under $100…this one by one of the more “recognized” brands if you are picky like that.

14. Braun 3 Series Wet & Dry Shaver

14. Braun 3 Series Wet & Dry Shaver

Detail on Amazon

This is the entry level Braun. Unlike the other two in this price range it is a foil shaver, not a rotary one. Rotary shavers don’t require the replacement heads but the other difference is that they are most efficient when moving in a circle. Foil shavers are designed for you to move side to side. The clean and charge unit that will help the shave run better is sold separately. Without it you can treat this shaver as a budget shaver as some of the others on this list, but if you were considering moving up to a better Braun shaver at some point, you should get one.

15. Remington F5-5800 Foil Shaver, Men’s Electric Razor, Electric Shaver

15. Remington F5-5800 Foil Shaver, Men's Electric Razor, Electric Shaver, Black

Detail on Amazon

Our final entry to our 15 best shavers for men is another budget shaver. There are a few things that stand out about this one though. It has an extended shaving time of 60 minutes. It takes two hours to fully charge and there is a quick charge option of five minutes. That is pretty negligible though as realistically if one shaves and goes to work…it can be left on the charger for well over the required two hours. It can easily cut three days worth of growth without a problem. A final thing worth noting is this is the only shaver on the list that clearly specified that its voltage will work overseas. So if you travel and don’t like disposable razors, that would be a good enough reason in itself to own this razor.

In conclusion which razor you want depends entirely on what you are looking for. If you like disposable razors but are just sick of how the normal cheap ones feel, stick to Gillette Fusion Proshield Chill. These are also a good choice if you like a cooling effect when you shave. There are five budget shavers on the list…one is from Panasonic, two are Philips Norelco, one is the entry level Braun and the Remington. Obviously the Gilette Chill would have been a good option if you travel as well, but if you like to travel and don’t like disposable razors stick with the Remington Foil Shaver. The other two are the Philips Norelco and the Braun. Personally, if you want a Braun, I would go with the five series, not this one. And I am neutral about Philips Norelco because of some problems in getting the correct heads and some of their recent replacement heads have been made cheaply. So if you want a budget shaver, I would choose the Remington Foil Shaver.

If you are looking for a better shaver, the Braun is the clear winner. The clean and charge station and the replacing the heads every eighteen months, make this razor a solid investment that will last a long time. If you are going to get one though, I would get the five series. Even if the clean and charge station is brought separately that is still better than the cost of the series 7 even though that price includes the clean and charge station.
